From cupboards to the floor: The filament storage struggle is real (and 100 more rolls are on the way...)
I used to keep my filament neatly organised in dedicated cupboards. Then more arrived, so it got stacked up under the worktops. Then even more arrived, so now the spools currently on the go are literally stacked on the floor!
The storage situation might look chaotic, but I promise I treat my materials with respect:
- Airtight protection: Every active spool gets sealed in an airtight container or vacuum bag with fresh desiccant.
- Ready-to-go desiccant: Spares are kept bone-dry and ready to roll after a thorough bake in the E2 heater.
- VIP treatment: The fancy engineering filaments live full-time in their own dedicated SP2 dry boxes.
I mainly run SUNLU filaments—from standard PLA and PETG right up to PA6-CF—and whenever I crack open a fresh spool, it gets a nice, long soak in the SP2 before it goes anywhere near an extruder.
Ideally, I’d love to centralise the whole lot in an Inslogic / SUNLU FilaDC i10 cabinet. Help a bloke out eh, SUNLU? 🤣
My next immediate dilemma: the 100 rolls from the 13th Anniversary sale haven't even landed yet. When that pallet turns up, the workshop is going to be completely overrun!
I promise I'm not addicted to 3D printing... Who am I kidding? 3D printing is love, 3D printing is life!
